Los Cristianos
Many people come to Tenerife on holiday and enjoy themselves so much that they wonder what it would be like to stay here.
One of the first questions they must answer is where to buy their apartment. While it is good advice simply to rent for a few months until you get a feel for the different areas and can come to an informed decision our preference is for the South of the island. For all their cultural and historical attractions, Santa Cruz or Puerto De La Cruz in the North do not offer the benefits of Los Cristianos or Las Americas.
The weather of course is a prime reason. The north is probably prettier, much greener and lush but they pay for that with a cooler climate and considerably more rain.
With Santa Cruz only an hour´s drive away, it is easy to have your cake and eat it. Enjoy the easy lifestyle here in Los Cristianos and drive north when you feel the urge to do some serious shopping. The larger shopping centres like Carrefour, Alcampo and Corte Ingles are all in Santa Cruz but that doesn´t mean you will have to go up there every week to do your weekly shop. You´ll find just about everything you need in the big supermarkets like Hyper Trebol, Hiperdino and Mercadona.
Originally a fishing village, Los Cristianos still has a the feeling of a small coastal town. A large part of the town is pedestrian making evening promenades with your family an enjoyable experience. You can let your little ones run about with no fear of car accidents. Incidentally, the Spanish love children and you´ll find that you will feel quite comfortable taking them to restaurants with you. Many restaurants will have a high chair for babies and almost all will have some kind of children´s menu.
If you like to eat well, then you´ll love living in Los Cristianos. Restaurants, cafes and tapas bars of every kind line the streets. If you really want to stick to British food while living here you will find no end of belly buster British breakfasts, steak pie & chips and good old Sunday Roast specials, but why would you want to miss out on the Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Lebanese, Moroccan, German, Belgian and so many other cuisines you have to choose from?
Los Cristianos is situated on the south coast of tenerife. This town centres itself around the bay los Cristianos, but this once quiet fishing village is now growing with more modern developments. This village was an important part of tenerife for the fishing market and the harbour of los Cristianos which predates the tourist boom around the 1980s. unlike its more lively neighbour Playa de las Americas you can still find a few typical Canarian architectures around the town.
Nowadays this town is a vibrant holiday destination that attracts all year round trade. Offering a multitude of bars and restaurants. There is also a wide range of accommodation to suit all budgets including hotels, and self catering apartments. Like any cosmoplitan centre, Los Cristianos offers a wide variety of opportunities to interact with the community. Offering many excursions focused around the town’s busy port including dolphin, whale watching and game fishing. One of the best ways to get to know a place and settle in is to make friends and participate in local events.
