Its carnival time in Tenerife and the most spectacular of the celebrations can be found in the capital of the island Santa Cruz which is the second biggest carnival in the world only behind the Brazilian carnival in Rio. However the carnival runs throughout the Island, with a full programme of events. The start of the carnival has the election of carnival queen and junior carnival queen. This is then followed by main regional events and competitions; there is also a carnival parade in the south of the Island in Los Cristianos.
