The Canary-Islands born Javier Bardem made history becoming the first Spanish actor to win an Oscar. Javier comes from a large family of actors, his uncle was the first Spanish actor to be nominated for the awards back in 1959. Javier received the oscar for best supporting actor for his mesmerizing role in Coen Brothers' No Country for old men. This was a case of second time lucky for the actor as in 2001 Javier was nominated for his performance in Julian Schnabel's Before night falls.
