2009 Carnival in Los Cristianos

A lively fiesta with a busy schedule of events is what attracts local people and visitors alike. Los Cristianos elects its own Carnival Queen in a spectacular gala that marks the beginning of the carnival. One of the important features of this carnival and of others in the area is that it takes place after the Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz carnivals. This year there has been confusion over the date as it is beginning a week later. This year it takes place from the 6th to the 16th March. Friday 6th 8pm Presentation of the candidates for Carnival Queen, cultural center Los Cristianos. Saturday 7th 7pm parade from Avenida Rafael Puig in Playa de las Américas, Hotel Conquistador to C.C. Gala. Thursday 12th 8.30pm Election of Junior Carnival Queen, Opposite the Valdes Center, recinto ferial (fairground area) Friday 13th 9pm Election of the Carnival Queen, Opposite the Valdes Center, recinto ferial (fairground area) Saturday 14th Evening Street bands and entertainers. Traditional Canarian bands Opposite the Valdes Center, recinto ferial (fairground area) Sunday 15th 5pm Gran Coso Apoteósico del Carnaval (The Main Parade) from Aptos. Paloma Beach, to la Avenida Juan Carlos I, finishing at the recinto ferial. Wamampy band and other entertainment. Monday 16th 8pm Burial of the sardine at Los Cristianos Port followed by the Widows Ball.
